Hair follicleYou probably have come across this name when searching for “acne”. Acne vulgaris is the actual name of the skin condition which is caused by changes in the skin structures, mostly the hair follicles with the sebaceous gland. The sebaceous gland consists of sebum, and when you get acne the amount of sebum is excessive causing your sebasecous gland to get clogged. When you have severe acne you have an inflammation in the sebaceous glands.

Other names for acne vulgaris is acne, zits, pimples, spots and blemishes. Most people have acne during some part of their life. Acne is very common and 85% of teenagers gets affected by it. Some have bigger problems with acne and still have acne in their adulthood. The reason to why people still have problems with acne in their adulthood can be many, but one of them is the difference in skin types in all people. Another one is the increase of hormones which affect the amount of sebum in the hair follicles. During puberty the amount of hormones in your body increases and the sebum in the hair follicles is controlled by sebum. The result is that most hair follicles overproduce the amount of sebum resulting in acne.

However for most people the problems with acne decreases over time and usually is gone in one’s early twenties. The acne is often located to your face and surrounding parts like neck, shoulders and back and chest. Very severe acne can cause big cysts with sebum but is very rare and is often caused by a severe infection in the glands.

Many people who suffer from acne have a low or reduced self-esteem because of how they look. It’s most common in people during adolescence when you’re most socialy insecure. The good thing is that today there are a lot of treatment to fight acne and to get rid of them permanently.

To prevent the hair follicles to get clogged, resulting in acne vulgaris you have to keep your face clean. The clogging is not actually a part of the excessive sebum, it would not have been a problem if it didn’t get clogged. The reason it do get clogged is because dirt (bacteria) gets into your pores and stop the sebum from getting out and thus clogging your pores.
